Do you have friends?

What a crazy question... Do you have friends.... Silly. But really do you? Friends that can't wait to see you. Who drop by, wait at the end of your driveway to see if you will notice them and come out to say hi. Friends that call or text just to say hi. Riches and blessings every single one.

We Only Live Once

Do you at least try?

We had an odd yellow kitchen chair in very sad shape. It was time to reupholster or toss it.

Would you at least try to fix it? What is there to loose?

Really only time. For even if the chair repair was an epic failure, by trying you are learning.

No Sugaring Yet

40/20. That's the temperatures when the sap runs. We are coming up on two weeks behind schedule; our schedule. For Mother Nature takes her good time creating magic.

Would you bake cookies?

If your friend is not feeling well, would you bake cookies? Yes or no.

What if your friend is of the four legged variety? Same answer?

Not to be too clique, but what would Pope Francis do? Remember all dogs go to heaven.

Do you see the little guy?

Had the wonderful opportunity to take my boss' dogs for a walk. While out another doggie friend quite rudely, but full of affection, jumped up on me to say hi. Frankie turned into my knight in shining armor. Barking and jumping up on the greeter until the other dog backed off. No biting or fighting but a lot of posturing supported by growl.

Frank and I are friends. When I visit he sits with me. I rub his belly and give him a lot of attention. In the summer we run around sharing a soccer ball. He bites it. I kick it. But I never knew he had my back. Sweet Frankie. Thank you.

Under the surface

Sometimes the biggest changes are taking place under the surface, hidden from the naked eye. Tons of work; a tough slog through major effort. No one will see them at first, but they are there. You know it.

Yesterday's ski outing through the fresh sixteen inches of snow. The old tracks gone. The new track being cut knee deep. You can see a ski tip if you look carefully.

And it's going to snow again today

But only a dusting... The last storm was 16 inches.

Life goes on, as this year's snow piles up. An inch or two, last year, might close the schools. This year I doubt the plows will come out. In all likelihood we won't shovel.

I Own It

Today, I will call the carrier that I booked last Friday, to deliver a load labeled ASAP, to a receiver who is closed today. Costly mistake. Excellent learning opportunity. The situation will be cleared up in less than 15 minutes. The carrier will voice their displeasure. After all their truck is tied up today with my freight. I will listen. I will apologize. Offering no excuses. Payment will be agreed upon and made. Moving on.

Yesterday and Today

Yesterday: Love is moving the bike trainer from the garage into the living room. Exercised in shorts and a tshirt. A summer blessing on February 14th.

Today: More snow. Bitter cold is keeping the flakes light and fluffy. There is another foot on the ground. If I were to tap the trees today (which we are not -- too cold) the buckets would be hung 6 feet up on the trees.

What do you see?

Like relationships, snow brings out the best or the worst in people.

Do you see three feet of snow? Or do you see mother daughter snow angels?

Put you best foot forward

We are a Disney family. In keeping with Disney excellence and attention to detail these shoes will ensure that we always put our best foot forward; Disney style.

What do you see?

Do you see the back breaking job of moving 5 feet of snow? Or do you see a snow fight? Where shovels full of the fluffy white are strategical launched across the walk at the intended but unsuspecting target? Where such laughter ensues that all shoveling stops.

A war started by the mom... The supposed mature shoveler who stalked her daughters... We have never seen so much snow. Nor have we ever had so much fun clearing it.

Winter bring it on.

Another snowy Monday

Wreaking havoc. I've never come home from work and laid down for a nap before today. Heading out to shovel at 6 PM. Dreaming of tropical isles with warm breezes.

Still not as bad as Buffalo when then got 6 feet from one storm. But we have that much snow on the ground from the last two weeks.

There will be plenty of water for the sugaring season. In years past we have tapped the trees right around Valentines Day. I don't see it happening that soon this year.

Maybe it's not a Do Over but rather a Do Harder

Parents married 56 years yesterday. Almost unheard of these days.

We gathered. Laughed. Cooked. Ate. Went to Mass. And then back for coffee and dessert. I do love that flow.

Afterwards, company heading home, the dishwasher loaded, Chris and I drove into Cambridge to get the laptop he will need to work from home during the next storm.

The city looks beautiful when it's not your usual view.

More snow and skiing again

Proof that others use the old rail bed; a deer track and an owl pellet. Amazing what you will see when you make the time to look around you.

All this snow and 15 more inches on the way.

Do you learn every day?

I have a simple job. Straight forward. Step two after step a, followed by step 3. Been there 21 months and still there is learning.

Thinking of writing it all down. Page one. Mistakes happen. Own it if it's yours. Learn from it either way. Be forgiving especially to yourself. Move on.

The above image was taken from wcvb news online. With all the ice and snow a truck got stuck on some train tracks. A train came around the bend and hit it. The driver was able to jump to safety. Minor injuries on the train.

Being in transportation I'm attuned to accidents involving trucks.

Paint Night

Crazy. New. In this case being held at the local frozen yogurt bar. You go to paint. Step by step instruction. Follow the artist. All the same objective that turn out so different.

Same as life. And in this case, as in life, I would ask for a do over. Crazy, I know.

What do you do?

Last week you pushed forward, cut a trail. And this week... It's gone. Faced with another tough slog, what do you do?

Quit?

Complain?

Wait for someone else to take the lead?

No, push on. Knowing you've cut the trail before and you can do it again. And if need be, again and again.

When do you give up?

Stop trying? I'm trying to make a whole wheat dough. It's winter. It's cooler in the house. Cold really. It's whole wheat; tough to rise. The dough is showing signs of rising, but it's taking hours longer than it should.

Promise versus tossing it and starting over or not starting again and calling it a wash... The fighter in me says, one more try this time with more feeling.
