Definition of a Dear Friend

A dear friend is the person or persons you call, before the police, when faced with an emergency.

No emergency here, just posting a definition.

Much like a 2 a.m. friend defined as the person you can call no matter the time of day or night and no matter how long it's been since you last spoke and ask a huge favor, like "can I drop my kids off to you now, something horrible has happened" and the answer, without hesitation is 'yes, don't worry about a thing'.
Those are the best, best kinds of friends -- there for you at the drop of a hat -- no questions asked.
I have often told my boys that the 2 a.m. friends are the ones that matter in life, not the friends that want to be there for you only while the going is good. You don't need many of them, just a precious few and they will be there for you throughout your life, whatever it may bring.
