How far would you go?

Our neighborhood church was closed six years ago during to consolidation of the Boston Archdiocesan parishes. And during that time there were rumors we would have to travel all the way across town to attend Mass. In the end we travel just a few more miles down the road; not bad. So this past Saturday when we drove off at 9 AM to make Mass at 7:30 AM Sunday, I wondered, just how far would someone, anyone, travel to attend Mass? Last weekend we drove just about 1300 miles with Mass as our initial destination.

A pivotal moment at World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid, Spain, was the Stations of the Cross. Especially the station of the Last Supper, for at the table, instead of the Apostles being arranged horizontally (with some quite distant from Our Lord), they sat vertically with Jesus at the head of the table. And what struck me was when the crowd pressed up to see this station it appeared as if we were all seated at the table of the Lord. All invited. All welcome.

This past weekend, a bit disheveled and tired from the drive, as we knelt in prayer of thanksgiving for our safe journey, I again faced this same awesome image of the Last Supper.

Madrid, Spain, to Orlando, Florida -- the table is set. No reservation required.

Great post. Sorry we missed you guys. We had Mass in God's Cathedral - the wilderness. And yes, no reservation was required, and all were invited.

Maybe next time. Just look for a rag tag group of travelers, sitting towards the back as to not be too conspicuous.
