In graduate school I worked with the isotope P32 tagged ATP. Most times I measured the amount of ATP created by the thylakoid membranes. Other times I labeled the ATP myself and measured it's hydrolysis in vitro where I did everything I could to drive the coupling factor complex "backwards."
