Freedom is not Free

Memorial Day, modern day Decoration Day, started after the Civil War. A day to decorate the graves of the braves souls that gave their lives for our freedoms.

I grew up calling it Decoration Day. I was fortunate to march in the 4th of July Parade in Pittsfield, MA in 1984. Something about the state of Massachusetts and the way they celebrate patriotism.

Hi David,

Yes Massachusetts is very patriotic, especially concerning its Veterans.

And I would venture to say that patriotism is pretty uniform across all of New England, and especially in Wallingford, VT (a small town like Pittsfield, MA) where this parade and ceremony took place.
