The Last Boil

As the last of our sap boils down, my heart is heavy. Another season has come and will soon be gone. Last November, it seemed so premature to be counting taps and checking buckets, and now it's over. Well almost. One last batch to finish.

Despite the fact, we haven't been getting a lot of sap, and some taps have dried off, I didn't had the heart to remove the buckets from the trees. It's so hard to let go of a good season.

Maple syrup prices hit an all-time high in NH

Strafford, NH (AP) -- Maple syrup lovers may be hit with sticker shock in New Hampshire.
The state Agriculture Department says syrup is selling for $45 a gallon, an all-time high, made possible by dramatic hikes in fuel costs and supplies.
The New Hampshire Maple Producers Association says the price per gallon was $39 last year and $38.20 per gallon in 2006.
Maine syrup producers have said they too expect syrup prices to be high.

I had heard that prices were going up. I guess it is pure gold, after all.
