Except for the light over the stove the house was in complete darkness by the time Charlotte got home from the parish council meeting. Usually it was a late night, but lately it was even later. Or it seemed that way. Maybe it's the baby... it was the first time she allowed herself to really think about the life inside her since leaving the doctors three days ago. Oh!, she thought I need to make that appointment.
Putting her purse on the kitchen table she noticed the message machine. Two messages, they could probably wait till morning, but better to have a mental jump on the deliverables for the day. After all her editor had moved up her deadline from two weeks, to get it to me by the weekend. As she pushed the playback button she thought, he couldn't possibly want it tonight.
beep... "Charlotte this is Mom. Just wondering if you have plans on Saturday. Would love to take you out clothes shopping for your birthday." Charlotte smiled as her hand passed across her belly. Yup, looks like I'll really be needing more than a new pair of jeans. Then an uncontrollable shutter went through her body as images of the latest maternity outfits flashed through her mind. "God give me strength."
beep... "Charlotte this is Dr. Houseman's office. We've been trying to reach you to make that appointment. At your age, testing is critical. Please call 444-876-6734."
It was then Charlotte noticed the note next to the phone.
Mom, Isn't Houseman the dino gyno? Sarah
